Nylon: Nylon membrane filters are hydrophilic, flexible, tear-resistant, and autoclavable. They are resistant to a range of organic solvents and suitable for use with high pH samples. Nylon binds proteins. Unsuitable for acidic solutions. pH range ~3-14.
MCE (Mixed Cellulose Ester) syringe filters are an ideal choice when biological samples are involved. Mixed Cellulose is a hydrophilic membrane offering both low protein binding coefficients and exceptional flow rates.

Cellulose acetate is a very low protein binding membrane that is ideal for aqueous based samples and biological samples. It is a lower protein binder than either polyethersulphone or PVDF membranes, but has a lower chemical resistance than regenerated cellulose (RC). CA is a strong membrane mechanically and hydrophilic.

PTFE is hydrophobic and needs to be pre-wetted before being used with aqueous solvents. Used for: corrosive solvents, strong acids, alcohols, alkalis, aromatic hydrocarbons. Not suitable for: water-based samples.
The hydrophobic PTFE syringe filter membrane is made of hydrophobic polytetrafluoroethylene. It filters organic solvents, aqueous solutions and gases that are chemically corrosive, and can withstand most strong acid and alkaline solutions. Product application: Used for the clarification and filtration of strong acids and alkalis, the filtration of high-temperature liquids and special chemical reagents, and the clarification and filtration of air or various gases.

Polypropylene is compatible with acetone, ethyl acetate, methanol, isobutanol, methanol and methyl ethyl ketone. Polypropylene is incompatible with cyclohexane, ether, dichlorobenzene, pentane, methylene chloride and trichlorobenzene. It is recommended to use gas, disinfectant or autoclave to sterilize products made of polypropylene. The maximum operating temperature is 135¡ãC.

Please note that Hydrophilic PVDF syringe filters are not compatible with majority of strong acids and caustic solutions, such as dimethyl sulfoxide, dimethylformamide (DMF), acetone, ketones, esters, and ethers.
